Overview

Ahu Talsik has been teaching Pilates for more than 16 years. She took the leap from instructor to owner and opened Athina Pilates, a reformer studio in Kitchener, Canada, with eight machines. What started as a one-woman operation has grown steadily since. Ahu has brought on instructors to keep up with demand, and her business keeps expanding.

When Ahu first began teaching her own clients, she had no booking system at all. All she had was an email address and, in her words, “a super basic website.” Every session meant scheduling, collecting payment, and confirming details by hand. “Even just after three people, it wasn’t easy to manage,” she says.

As her client list grew, so did the pressure to find something more robust. Even the parts of the platform she hasn’t fully adopted yet are built to handle more volume than she’s currently asking of them, which gives her room to grow into them as her team gets bigger.

The results

Room to keep growing, without hitting a ceiling

Today, Athina Pilates looks nothing like it did when it started. There are more classes, more instructors, and more moving parts. Even with all this growth, Ahu hasn’t had to rebuild her operations to support any of it. Automated reminders now do the payment follow-up she used to handle herself, freeing up time as her client roster grows.

“Without automations, it would be super difficult,” she says. “They remind my clients about payments and deadlines.”

She’s also expanding her own use of the platform to match the studio’s next stage. On-demand video is next on her list. A branded app is on her radar for the summer, timed with the studio’s continued growth.

“Even if I don’t upgrade, I can still use it very effectively,” she says. “Everything is going well so far.”
