Overview

Jenny Finneran didn’t plan to own a yoga studio. When the previous owner of a small vinyasa studio in Ocala, Florida, needed someone to take it over, Jenny said yes. More on instinct than ambition. The space fit about twelve people and was tucked behind a juice bar. She paid rent, set up her LLC for Evolve Power Yoga, and got to work.

That was January 2022. By mid-2023, she’d outgrown the space, rebuilt the teaching team from scratch, and relocated Evolve Power Yoga to a new location. Today the studio runs four or more classes every day, employs nine instructors, and serves over 150 active clients each month. Jenny has moved to a different city. And she’s planning a second location.

The challenge

Outgrowing a basic scheduling tool with no payroll or automation

When Jenny took over the studio, she inherited its software, which was a basic scheduling tool that worked well enough when it was small but fell apart as the team grew.

“I had to individually calculate everything for payroll. That’s just too much time — especially when you have nine people, the amount of classes per week, it’s a lot to calculate.”

She looked at Mindbody, the platform most studios in her network used. But the price wasn’t justifiable for a studio that was still finding its footing.

“Ocala is a small town. Mindbody was so expensive. I was like, we’re just starting out and I’m not paying over a hundred and something a month. That just was not justifiable for us.”

Cost aside, the real problem was that scheduling tools only did scheduling. Jenny needed a website, automated communications, and instructor management all working together. And she didn’t want to spend her time stitching separate platforms together.

The solution

The results

A studio that runs without the owner in it

Two years ago, Jenny moved away from Ocala. Most studio owners couldn’t make that work. For Jenny, the decision was possible specifically because OfferingTree gave her visibility into the business without requiring her physical presence.

She can check which classes are performing, see how many members have churned, review instructor hours, and make decisions based on real data all without being in the room.

“If you have a good staff and a good space, it really can’t go wrong if you’re watching and taking care of the business. And that’s where it really started changing — when I stepped back and did the business work instead of teaching all the classes.”

“I think of somebody I know who still tallies payroll manually and I was like, wait, what? They still do that? I just don’t even understand. I remember my old system — that’s what I had to do. It was so taxing.”

Doubling the business

Since switching to OfferingTree, Evolve Power Yoga has more than doubled its revenue. Classes run daily. Membership is steady, and the studio has grown from a twelve-person room to a full schedule with nine instructors.

When Jenny decided to open a second location, her first thought was that the software side would be simple.

I know it’s going to be easy because of OfferingTree. I’m just going to duplicate it. I know the system. I’m just going to have another manager to help keep the space oriented.
