The Art of The Playlist:
Crafting Class Music That Inspires & Elevates
DJ Taz Rashid
The music in your class is doing more than filling silence. When it’s right, it guides breath, builds energy, and creates the kind of experience students remember and come back for. When it’s off, they notice, even if they can’t explain why.
In this session, DJ Taz Rashid breaks down the system behind a great yoga playlist. Drawing on over a decade of performing at global festivals and trainings, Taz will walk through how to map energy across a class, how to match beats per minute to different phases of a flow, how to build seamless transitions, and how to find music worth building around. He’ll share real playlist examples and the common mistakes he sees teachers make, so you leave with a practical, repeatable approach you can use straight away.
Whether you’re teaching in a studio, running online classes, or building out on-demand content, this session gives you the tools to make music a genuine asset in your teaching rather than an afterthought.
In this session, you’ll learn:
- How to map energy across a class so your music supports every phase, from warm-up to savasana
- The role of beats per minute (BPM) and how to match tempo to different moments in a flow
- How to build seamless transitions that keep students in the experience
- Where to find high-quality music worth building a playlist around
- The most common playlist mistakes yoga teachers make — and how to avoid them
- How to apply these principles whether you teach in-studio, online, or through on-demand content
