It’s no secret these days that creating and sharing content is one of the most effective ways to build your online presence as a wellness and fitness professional. It’s also no secret that there are endless digital platforms and ways to share this content but in this post, we want to talk specifically about blogs. Coming up with ideas for blog content can be overwhelming to think about, especially if you’re new to the world of blogging! Here we offer a guide and tips to help you brainstorm and plan content that feels authentic while increasing your presence and serving your audience.
Pay attention to the questions you hear: Are there certain questions that keep popping up at your classes? Have you noticed students are perplexed by a tricky yoga pose or alignment while practicing an exercise? Make a note of these. For technical questions, you could develop a library of tutorials which will be great for your current students and introduces your teaching style to potential new students. Developing tutorials or answering questions gives you practice in explaining concepts so it’s a good way to hone your teaching chops. Also, directly addressing questions from your students shows that you care about your offering and helping your students grow in their practice.
Connect a personal story to your practice: Keep your eyes open to your daily experiences and see if there’s a way to connect it to the practice or service you’re offering. For example, if you’re a yoga teacher who talks about mindfulness in your classes, you might share a real-life experience when pausing for a moment of mindfulness made a difference during a difficult interaction. Or, as a personal trainer, you might explain how a strength-building workout helped you in practical ways on moving day. Help your audience understand how your offering goes beyond the yoga mat or fitness center – and why it matters.
Conduct an interview: Interviews are a great way to collaborate with others and provide some cross-promotion opportunities. Consider sitting down with a respected teacher or provider in your field, a student with an inspirational story, or a mentor that you admire. You could share this in a video or audio format, or conduct the interview via email then write an article or profile for your blog post. If your interviewee has a website, blog, or social media, ask them if they’d be willing to share your blog post with their followers which will help you gain extra exposure.
Be a student: Maintaining a blog provides you with a great reason to dig into topics that you’d like to learn more about. Perhaps you’d like to learn more about anatomy and how it relates to your practice whether it’s yoga, dance, or personal training. Use your blog as an opportunity be a student yourself then share your findings with your audience. Your curiosity also shows you’re passionate about keeping your practice fresh, both as a teacher and a student.
These are just a few ideas to help you generate content ideas but the most important advice we can give is to make sure that whatever you produce feels authentic to you and your practice. Also, remember to share new posts and content with regular cadence and don’t be afraid to experiment with different elements such as video or photos. Think of your blog as your practice – keep showing up, stay curious, and watch it evolve!
